As they continued searching, Delirium suddenly stopped in her tracks. Destruction and Sandman turned to look at her, wondering what she had found. Delirium pointed to the floor, where there was a small, circular object lying on the ground.
"What is it?" asked Sandman.
Delirium bent down to pick up the object. It was a button, made of gold and adorned with an intricate design.
"It belonged to the victim," she said, turning the button over in her hand.
Destruction and Sandman exchanged a look, both realizing that this could be a crucial piece of evidence. They continued their search with renewed determination, hoping to find more clues.
After a few more minutes of searching, Destruction suddenly shouted out in triumph. "I found something!"
Sandman and Delirium rushed over to where he was standing. In his hand, Destruction was holding a small, folded piece of paper.
"It looks like a letter," said Delirium, taking the paper from Destruction's hand.
Sandman took a closer look at the letter, reading it aloud. "My dear friend, I fear for my life. I believe that someone is trying to kill me."
Destruction's eyes widened. "This must have been the victim's final letter. Whoever he was writing to may have more information about what happened."
With newfound hope, the trio set out to discover who the letter was addressed to. They searched through the victim's belongings, hoping to find any clues. After a few minutes of searching, they came across a small leather notebook, with a single name inscribed on the cover: "David."
"David must be the person the victim wrote to," said Sandman, flipping through the pages of the notebook.
As they read through the notebook, they discovered that David was the victim's closest friend, and he had been confiding in him about the threats against his life. They found detailed notes about possible suspects, including a business partner who had recently become jealous of the victim's success.
With this new information, Destruction, Sandman, and Delirium set out to find David, hoping he could shed more light on what had happened to their friend.
They eventually tracked David down to a small apartment on the outskirts of town. He was surprised to see them, but eagerly welcomed them inside when they told him why they had come.
As they sat in David's living room, Sandman showed him the letter they had found. David's face turned pale as he read the words on the page.
"I had no idea it had gotten this bad," he said, looking up at them with tears in his eyes. "He never told me it was this serious."
Destruction placed a reassuring hand on David's shoulder. "We need to know everything you can tell us. Every detail about what happened."
David nodded, taking a deep breath. And so, he began to recount the events that led up to his friend's untimely death.
As the story unfolded, Destruction, Sandman, and Delirium listened intently, piecing together the final moments of their friend's life. And though they couldn't bring him back, they vowed to find the person responsible for his death and bring them to justice.
The three of them left David's apartment, feeling a sense of satisfaction that they had made progress in the case. They knew that it was far from over, but they were determined to see it through to the end.
As they walked through the streets of the city, Destruction turned to Sandman and Delirium. "We've got a long road ahead of us," he said. "But I know we can do this."
Sandman and Delirium nodded in agreement, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead in their quest for justice.
