Chapter One: The First Encounter
Death had been watching Rasputin for some time, fascinated by the sheer force of his will. He had never seen a mortal who seemed so unafraid of death, so unyielding in the face of the inevitable.
And so, one day, she appeared before him in the guise of an old crone, offering him a poisoned cake. But Rasputin merely laughed, and ate the cake without a second thought.
"I am not so easily taken, old woman," he said, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
Chapter Two: The Second Encounter
Death watched as Rasputin continued to elude her grasp. She tried drowning him, poisoning him, even shooting him, but nothing seemed to work. He always emerged unscathed, laughing in the face of death.
One day, she decided to try a different approach. She appeared before him as a beautiful young woman, offering him her love and her body.
But even this did not sway Rasputin. "I have no use for such things," he said, turning away.
Chapter Three: The Third Encounter
As Rasputin grew older, Death began to grow frustrated. She had never encountered a mortal who seemed so unafraid of the inevitable. And so, she decided to approach him once again.
This time, she appeared before him as a beggar, asking for alms. But Rasputin merely smiled, and gave her all the money he had.
"I will face death when it comes, but I will not let fear rule my life," he said.
Chapter Four: The Fourth Encounter
As the years went by, Death grew increasingly desperate. She had tried every trick in the book, but Rasputin still eluded her grasp.
One day, she decided to take a more direct approach. She appeared before him in her true form, her scythe at the ready.
But even this did not faze Rasputin. He stood before her, unafraid, his eyes sparkling with mirth.
"Is this all you've got?" he asked, his laughter ringing out across the land.
Chapter Five: The Final Encounter
As Rasputin lay dying, Death appeared before him one last time. She was weary now, tired of the endless game of cat and mouse they had played for so many years.
"I have come for you, Rasputin," she said softly.
Rasputin smiled, his eyes full of mischief. "You're a bit late, my dear," he said. "I died long ago."
And with that, he closed his eyes, a final chuckle escaping his lips.
Epilogue
Death watched as Rasputin's soul disappeared into the ether, a twinge of regret and admiration stirring in her heart. She knew that she had never encountered a mortal quite like him, and she knew that she would never forget him.
And so, she disappeared into the void, wondering what other mortals she would encounter in her endless quest for souls. But in her heart, she knew that none of them would ever be quite like Rasputin, the man who had laughed in the face of death itself.
